In another shock announcement by Defra, the SFI24 scheme has been closed to new applications with immediate effect. No prior warning of this closure was given.
Key points:
• Existing agreements in place will continue
• SFI24 applications submitted but not yet offered will be offered an agreement in due course
• We’re told SFI applications can still be submitted where:
o a system fault had prevented submission
o assisted digital support for the application had been requested
o where a Pilot agreement has ended and a full SFI 2024 application has not been made
It appears Defra plans to offer a reformed SFI scheme in 2026. The detail of which is currently unknown.
