The RPA have announced that new hedgerow regulations begin from the 1st July 2024 for the management of hedgerows on agricultural land.
The new regulations are very similar to the previous cross compliance rules. The new regulations require a 2-metre buffer strip, no cultivation or application of pesticides or fertilisers within the 2-metre buffer strip, and a hedgerow cutting and trimming ban from 1st March to 31st August with immediate effect.
The buffer strip rules will begin from 1st July 2024 for land not currently being used for crop production OR from the first harvest after 1st July 2024 for land which is currently being used for crops.
